I'm looking for a server management webapp. I've got eBox set up right now, but I haven't really used it. Does anyone have experience with these 2 and can point out advantages/disadvantages/personal opinions of each?

I've been chewing that question myself during the last days. I would also like to see how ISPConfig compares to those 2.

I cant really talk about ebox, but I've had a recent problem with Webmin that'll make me think twice before trusting it again. When i tried to setup my eth0 as static IP instead of DHCP, webmin completely messed my config file and i had to edit it manually.

Anyways, there are more then enough howtos and helpful people around so i dont think either of em are much needed. my opinion though.

I have wemin installed on my server but very rarely use it. I prefer setting things up in a terminal.

I decided to install webmin. I think I'm going to take ebox off my computer. There's still stuff I find myself ssh'ing in to do, but webmin doeds have a lot of really useful stuff available without doing that.

My suggestion: Learn CLI. Not only you will find it increasingly useful, but also you will find that you can administer a server without GUI- which is a very good option in case you run in to any problems.

CLI in one way is must - not everything is possible in Webmin or eBox. You can use them for monitoring but for administering themselves, command line is best.

I definitely agree that commandline is important, and I know my way around it fairly well, what I don't know is a quick google search away. Webmin has a really friendly interface for user creation and management, though, which is one really nice thing. It's also an easy way to monitor system resources.
