Music practice program

As a bassist, I've been using GarageBand on my Mac to import music files and then I can practice along with the song. I'm not recording with GB, only practicing.

Is there a similar program on ubuntu where I run my bass through the analog input and play along with an mp3, as described above?

Maybe try Rosegarden. I don't use it for bass, but I do use it for keyboard. It let's me export MIDI, whereas GB doesn't. Maybe give it a try, see if it works for you ...
