I'm pretty fond of VLC as a media player and I am about to change kaffeine as the main player. Now, everything works ok, less the keyboard shortcuts. If the player is in fullscreen, they do work, but if it is windowed, even if it is the selected window, it doesn't react in any way to the key commands.
What is triggering this?

It's is somewhat borked, to get most of the hotkeys (some seem to elict wrong action) in windowed mode you need to 'activate the seek bar'. It's hard to describe, you need to click just below the bar itself. Doing so won't advance the playback but will create a broken line around it . here's screenshot, magify the seek area to see what i mean
if some hotkeys don't do what there set to try remapping in settings
Edit: you can't magnify, d. click image for slightly bigger view

Hmm... if that seek bar is activated, you are right, it works. Yet, clicking below that one leads to skipping. And clicking anyway on the cursor leads to unselecting the bar.
