I usually synchronize mail between my laptop and desktop by copying the whole "mozilla-thunderbird/Local Folders/" directory from my desktop onto my laptop.

I am obviously the owner of that directory and I have done this many times. But now I cannot copy these files to this directory because "I do not have the permission" any more.

There must be a simple way to set the permissions to a directory and all subdirectories and files in the structure.

Both computers are running 8.04.

Edit: I got the impression that the problem was my write permissions, but it appears that the problem is the read permissions on the desktop. I can copy the directory to my network disk, but the laptop refuses to copy from this, complaining "Permission denied", but I can copy the directory to a DVD and then insert the DVD into the laptop and copy the whole directory from there. So it is not at all about permissions but it is really the good old Samba again, again and again...
