Trying to reduce the size of some concert photos to upload as attachments to a website. The photos are to big and I need to reduce their size below 2MB before the site will allow me to upload them.

Without sacrificing any of the actual photo how do I do this?

open GIMP and open the image. Then go to image-->scale image then change one value (it will adjust the other one so it stays proportional).

Then save the image as a .jpg at max quality. Check the file size. If it's still >2MB, then change the quality when saving it as a .jpg (or use a .png if you want - since it's intended for web use it'll offer better compression)

I love using GIMP for photo editing. i would suggest you try that
it comes with ubuntu already under applications.

When you've scaled/resized it, you may need to do a little sharpening...

Filters > Enhance > Unsharp Mask, and then try it with the radius between 1 and 2, Amount between 0.5 and 0.8, and Threshold at zero.

I'd use The Gimp. Scale the image to a reasonable size, and save it as a .jpg
