I think I have my remote set up right based on all the help from the forums, but I dont think LIRC is working right.
Can someone walk me through getting the right info to post to show if it is lirc or something else wrong. I am new to linux so be specific on commands....
thanks

Mark467... I've been playing around with MythTV and Ubuntu Linux for a little bit now (2+ yrs), but haven't really felt qualified to offer advice... As of late, I've been wrangling with LIRC quite a bit in Mythbuntu 8.04, so I wouldn't mind helping out with what I've been able to figure out.:cool:
To get started, what we'll need to know is:
What make/model of remote are you trying to use?
Which version of Ubuntu or Mythbuntu are you running?
If you've tried using the Mythbuntu Control Centre's LIRC generator, what's in your hardware.conf and lircd.conf files? You can find these in /etc/lirc; just double-click the icon if you're in a File Manager window or type nano /etc/lirc/hardware.conf and copy/paste the output into your reply (Control-X gets you out of nano).
If you type irw in a terminal and press a few buttons on the remote, do you see any code pop up in a new line? (Use Control-C to get out of irw and back to a command prompt.)
What we're looking for is to see if the remote's drivers are setup (hardware.conf) and if it's looking for the right codes coming in from the remote receiver (lircd.conf and the output from irw). This information should get the ball rolling.

If your new to forums, i suggest you take a look here and develop some forum etiquette. You haven't given anybody any information about your problem, so you cant expect them to help you.

Ok here is what I have:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/PCTV+Tuners/PCTV+Vista+Companion/Pinnacle+Remote+Kit+for+Windows+Media+Center.htm
Also I followed these instructions
Re: Lirc with mceusb2 driving me insane :(
I was able to get my remote working with these instructions. I actually use an older MCE remote with the Pinnacle receiver. The remote included with the Pinnacle receiver also works. Here is what I did:
Step 1) Verify the receiver you now have. Run "lsusb" and look for a line like this:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 2304:0225 Pinnacle Systems, Inc. [hex]
Important part is 2304:0225
The ID needs to be 2304:0225. Other receivers may work, but I don't know about them.
Step 2) Down load lirc. Go to the www.lirc.org website and download a CVS snapshot. (As of 03-13-2008 0.8.3pre1 is the newest.)
Step 3) Extract the snapshot (tar -jxvf lirc-0.8.3pre1.tar.bz2) This should create a new directory called lirc-0.8.3pre1.
Step 4) Patch the file with the new info. I used vi from the command line, but any text editor will work. i.e. gedit, kate, etc. Here is exactly what I did:
Change to directory and patch file. cd lirc-0.8.3pre1/drivers/lirc_mceusb2. Run 'ls' and make sure the lirc_mceusb2.c file is in the current directory. Run 'vi lirc_mceusb2.c'. Search for a line that says vendor section. It will look like this:
Code:
#define VENDOR_MITSUMI 0x03ee
#define VENDOR_TOPSEED 0x1784
#define VENDOR_RICAVISION 0x179d
#define VENDOR_ITRON 0x195d
#define VENDOR_FIC 0x1509
#define VENDOR_LG 0x043e
#define VENDOR_MICROSOFT 0x045e
#define VENDOR_FORMOSA 0x147a
#define VENDOR_FINTEK 0x1934
#define VENDOR_PINNACLE 0x2304
The last line is the new one I added.
The next section of the file looks like this:
Code:
/* Microsoft MCE Infrared Transceiver */
{ USB_DEVICE(VENDOR_MICROSOFT, 0x00a0) },
/* Formosa eHome Infrared Transceiver */
{ USB_DEVICE(VENDOR_FORMOSA, 0xe015) },
/* Fintek eHome Infrared Transceiver */
{ USB_DEVICE(VENDOR_FINTEK, 0x1934) },
/* Pinnacle Windows Vista Transceiver */
{ USB_DEVICE(VENDOR_PINNACLE, 0x0225) },
/* Terminating entry */
{ }
I added the two lines with the word Pinnacle in them.
Search through the file for this section:
Code:
switch (ir->buf_in[i]) {
/* data headers */
case 0x90:
case 0x8F:
case 0x8E:
case 0x8D:
case 0x8C:
case 0x8B:
case 0x8A:
case 0x89:
case 0x88:
case 0x87:
I added the "case 0x90" line.
Save and exit. In vi use ":wq".
Step 5) Recompile lirc. I had to add build-essential and linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic.
"sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic" I am on amd64 so i386 may be different. Once you have the needed packages run ./configure from the lirc-0.8.3pre1 directory. For option 1 choose USB Devices->Windows Media Center Remote new version (older version). Then "save and run configure"
Step 6) Once configure finishes it will say to run make and make install. Run make with "make". Once that finishes run make install. "sudo make install" This will install the new kernel modules and the new lirc daemon under /usr/local/bin/
Step 7) You can reboot or just stop Lirc, remove the kernel modules, and start lirc back up.
sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop
sudo rmmod lirc_mceusb2
sudo rmmod lirc_dev
sudo /etc/init.d/lirc start

Do you really use mythbuntu? A lot of your work is automated in mythbuntu.

Mark, seems your using exactly the same remote kit that i failed miserably attempting to get going.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=713682&highlight=pinnacle
I came across a lot of strange occurrences with this remote kit, and eventually gave up. It appears i never actually got the USB device to a point where lirc would recognise it. It should be at /dev/lirc0 not /dev/lirc/0 if you can manage to get it to that state. I'll have another play around and see if i can come up with anything.
EDIT:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=388728&highlight=lirc&page=4
After following crowbars post in that thread, i now have a lirc0 but im exhibitng the same problem as you when i run IRW: Connection Refused...
irrecord returns the following:
Press RETURN now to start recording.

Strange that it seems to think the remote is RC5... Can anyone confirm or deny this output is correct?
So close yet so far... I pick up this problem about once a month to try and get it going, this is the closest ive come yet.
If anyone could offer some advice to either of us, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would love some help on this any more info I need to post let me know. I would love to get the ir blaster on it to work also but that is not my primary concern.

Anyone have any luck with this yet. I am ready to dump it and buy one. I have a harmony remote, is there a way to put an ir reciver on the mythbox to work with this. If not does anyone know of a remote I can be and it work right out of the box?
