Since installing the latest Ubuntu, 5.10, I took notice of some software versions did not change, and still lag behind. One of which was easytag, which I just installed the debian package, and others such as leafpad. These compiled without a problem and, using checkinstall, built and installed fine.

Some of the newer software, which I believe should be updated are:

easytag 1.99.8
GnomeBaker 0.5.0
leafpad 0.8.4
bluefish 1.0.4

Perhaps I am just over zealous about software being current. :)

However, I do have the packages already built, so, not really knowing what to do, how do I submitt these to ubuntu? Well disincluding easytag which belonged to debian. :p

Sometime before release there is an upstream version freeze. From then on, no new versions of programs are included to avoid introducing new bugs and be able to concentrate on fixing existing bugs.

Btw. a package made with checkinstall is not good enough to be included in the repositories. There is a little more work needed. See here for more info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU
