View Full Version : [other] Samba Domain rather than workgroup

Hi all. I searched but couldn't seem to find an answer to this. I have Ubuntu set up using just workgroups for file sharing and that all works splendidly. The problem is my wife's laptop from work is in a Windows Domain, so it can't seem to "see" the Ubuntu shares. I know I can set up Samba's smb.conf to act as a domain controller, but my question is in what ways might that confuse the windoze laptop? I don't want to do anything that will make her laptop not work when she goes back into the office.

Will setting up Ubuntu as the same Domain Name her computer uses at work cause it to choke trying to log back into her mapped drives, etc., and since it would try (I assume) to use active directory for log in instead of local as it would 'think' it was on the real domain, would that lock the laptop up?

I need some help from a windows guru on this b4 I do something stupid! Thanks in advance!
