applications menu on top of frontend?

Is there a way I can add the applications menu right on top of the frontend, and after 15 sec or so of inactivity make it hide itself. I just would like easy access to other apps that I installed (ie Amsn messenger, firefox, and others). Thanks in advance.

If you have a keyboard connected, ctrl-esc will bring up the menu, and esc will drop it. It sounds like you do if you're wanting to chat and browse & such...

Thanks! That was just what I needed! I don't use the keyboard directly, but I do VNC into my mythbuntu box. That's much easier than opening the control centre window =)
