View Full Version : [ubuntu] the bar at the top of the screen has gone help!

hi im new, so far no problems have arisen and everything has been going well, but the bar at the top of the screen has gone on ubuntu (8.0.4, i really want it back but i don't know how, im sorry if i sound retarded but please i cant really use it without that bar at the top

Right click on an open space in the bottom panel; select "add new panel", tell it (if this isn't the default) that you want it on the top.

Were you playing with any desktop settings? Sounds like you may have asked the panel (bar) to "hide". Try placing your cursor near the upper right and/or left edges of your screen. Does the bar reappear? If so, right click on it and choose "properties". Then, in the 'General" tab choose you see options to Autohide the panel...if it is checked, uncheck it.

If you do not get anything showing up when you put the mouse cursor near the top of your display, I am not sure as I too am quite new. Someone with more experience in Terminal would be able to help then.
