Hey, I was just wondering, is Assassins creed playable by any chance on ubuntu? If so, what would be the minimal specs for hardware for it?

Would an Nvidia 6600 be enough for graphics? What about 512mb ram ?? Intel Pentium 4 enough processing power??

Does it REQUIRE DirectX10 or is that just for easy game flow?

Indeed it seems as Wine 1.0 is not good enough for AC, but the fact that it actually ran is pretty impressive :)

Hopefully wine editors can make an upgrade for that, heck Im sure that would boost ubuntu's popularity :D

But back to the next part of the question, what is the minimal pc hardware specs to actually play the game? Wine proves it runs, just needs some upgrades so thats solved.

Is it absolutely necessary for top notch, top of the chain hardware for this game to run on pc?

Thanks for the reply

If you read the reviews for the PC version of AC, you will find that the game doesn't work that well under Windows either. I played it for the 360, but I have seen plenty of stuff on the PC version, and none of it was good.

To be honest, the game isn't worth you purchasing it. Its fun and a good experience, but unless the P.C. version adds hours of content, its rent worthy (for the console of course) at best.

That's just my opinion though.

System requirements (source= http://www.beyond3d.com/content/news/570)

Supported OS: Windows XP / Vista (only) (ignore this, obviously).
Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
RAM: 2 GB (3 GB recommended)
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (512 MB video card recommended) (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries (included on disc)
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
Hard Drive Space: 12 GB!!!! (Side note: What the heck kind of compression do they use to get 12 gb down to 9? My compression usually isn't even a 1% decrease in file size)
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)

Owh, I see. Thanks for the reviews :)

I didnt know the game worked that terribly on the pc. Is it so even with the latest ATI graphics card(supposedly better than Nvidia's)?

Rent worthy eh ? hehe if I had a console to begin with, I would rent it XD

Your computer is not going to run Assassin's Creed, and that's the end of that discussion.

And as a rule for the future - don't plan on playing games that are on this generation of consoles unless you have at least a DX10 capable card and a dual core processor, at LEAST.
