I have installed vsftpd and is working fine yet--for the internal network; now i want to connect my computer from my friends computer using ftp://59.184.xx.xx which is my IP....He has Windows; can i directly do it through internet explorer by typing ftp://59.184.xx.xx ?????
Or i need to configure files like inetd(which i ruffly figured out by other threads) Please help me out/.....Please throw some lite on samba and others as those are found everywhere on the forum....I would like to learn as much as possible for Linux/....

yes you can do so directly.. but you need to ensure that port 21 is opened.. you need to open those ports in your router..
Samba is used for file sharing with windows users in your internal network not outside your network..
