Just tried a kernel upgrade with Synaptic -- to 2.6.22.15-generic. Upon reboot the system hangs after the statement "stage 5 of 5 (IP configure Comm) complete". I've tried using the recovery mode, but same result occurs.
Fortunately, I still can boot to the old/original kernel so it's not critical... however I still would like to resolve this problem if anyone has some ideas.

BTW, I am running Gusty 64-bit (originally with KDE, but using mostly Gnome now -- both desktops installed together)
