I have dual boot with Ubuntu 8.04 and Windows Vista.

Is it normal that in GRUB each time that I update Ubuntu I have the choice of selecting the current version of ubuntu or the last version.

Example:

Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 16-generic
Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 16-generic (recovery mode)

Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 18-generic
Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 18-generic (recovery mode)

Only when they have a new kernel updata.

Yes, it retains old kernel versions and allows you to select them. On a couple of my machines I have wireless hardware that only seems to work with older kernel versions. So, it's convenient to be able to set them as the default.

In fact, you'll hardly notice a difference if you select an older kernel version. As I understand it, the modifications made to the kernel as it progresses from one version to another are mostly things normal users would hardly even notice.
