There really isn't a correct answer to your question because it depends on individual user preference. Some will argue Ubuntu, others openSUSE and yet more Fedora etc.

The best Linux is Linux. What's on top of it is up to you. :guitar:

It is Ubuntu 8.04.

(I know that for a fact...)

Coming to the Ubuntu forums with that question is a bit tricky, we can be a bit biased.

But there are several distributions and each has pros and cons, and it depends so much of what you want. You want more stability, something that takes less space, more bleeding edge?

Well that would be Distro (as in Distribution) and not Linux (the Kernel itself). As for the "Best" distro thing, that depends on the user. If it satisfies your need and you feel comfortable using it, then that would probably be the best distro for you. It's best to try other distro's as well.

For me: it would be Ubuntu and Gentoo :)

"Best" depends on the metrics applied to measure and compare the different distros and it's highly individual depending mostly on the hardware you use.

If there was a best one, it would be the only one!

Try this Linux Distro Chooser....if you haven't already.

The best version is the one you finally install and find no good reason to install another over the top of.

Depends on the usage or the person who will use linux. Some may prefer Debian-based distros or they like with RPM packages or KDE, GNOME and so on. Depends also on the machine you will be using. Some may like KDE because probably the best looking environment almost similar to windows. But some may like only speed.

Every Distros have their own advantage over other. Take for example if you use KUBUNTU and OPENSUSE KDE. I may like Opensuse with KDE environment but I like KUBUNTU because I was used with ubuntu. But I will prefer ubuntu over Open SUSE Gnome..
