Hello world!
I have a problem with my computer... and this time it's not the windows partition(that has recently failed haha!) :P
When gnome load's up (on boot), it will load funny the white screen. I will not get the compiz fusion splash screen and all the textures and pretty much everything on the screen turns white. The cube will still work but it will lag... and the hovering windows are white. I just recently installed (yesterday/6 boots ago) an ATI 1650X pro to replace my NV7300GS. The drivers installed fine on ubuntu not on windows... and compiz was running faster and such. Then i was using it about 10 minutes ago and it froze. So i've tried "sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop" to have it remove(free up) 92.5 kbs of stuff and i reinstalled it. It seems like it dosent realize gnome is really there or maybe it's compiz. regardless im clueless.
I will be tackling this until the later hours of the night so please post all night :P
Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post

*update* Althought i reinstalled (seccessfully) gnome it's still being stupid. And BTW KDE is running great. Oh and before i forget compiz is still running after the reinstall and the cube is still spinning lagily.

Is there a way to disable compiz VIA terminal in kde or ctrl+alt+f(1-6)

Hi,

I'd like to resuscitate this thread because I have the same problem with an ATI 9600 Pro graphics card. I am able to guess where the logoff button is, and after that login to Gnome in recovery mode. All works fine without the effects.

There is no change with or without the ATI drivers. I've also been having this problem with Gutsy, just prior to upgrading to Hardy. First Hardy reboot showed no problems. Second reboot and since, the problem is back.

Just tried it again, and as soon as I turn on normal visual effects, the screen goes white.
