to an end user like me, whose only computer experience is windows ME, linux is confusing as hell. and, i used to think, because of that, it wasn't ready for desktop (at least not for anyone regularly exposed to vitamin D). however, i just realized that i haven't been any better about reading what i'm supposed to and yet, here i am, using linux. this stuff is easy, especially with so many people who can hardly wait to help someone for free. there's no argument against this: it's ready.

That's ironic because Windows ME is one of the most confusing, self-contradicting, unreliable operating systems that I've ever used. I think Linux beats Windows ME hands down for ease-of-use and functionality.

using ME is like defending a sand castle against the incoming tide.

you're joking, right?
ME was a sorry non-release; essentially win 98, with minor changes. It was terribly unstable. The total collapse of the family computer (which ran winMe and was somehow rendered unbootable (!) is what drove me to Linux (SuSe, then Ubuntu) in the first place--first as an emergency measure, then as a definitive solution.

with ME, i enjoyed finding new ways to make it work better, most involving 'unfucking' it up. so far (almost two weeks), breezy is like being locked in a giant toy store.
(*edit: hm... i wonder if i can come up with any more ridiculous analogies...)

I have a weird problem I just found out when I logged in to windows xp (gaming is good).
I noticed that I did not use my xp for more than 2 weeks to connect to internet (my main thingy after games) because my antivirus program was cursing at me... Isn't this weird? effects of ubuntu........
Oh, and, I was surprised that I had an antivirus thingy in xp  . just forgot about it wow!
linux is good. will trick my mom into using it. my girlfriend is too stubborn and addicted though (to xp). ms vista should fix that in a couple of years :)

Thanx 4 reminding me, I need to boot my XP and update it! Haven't done so in like a month... Since I've installed Linux, I haven't really used my XP... Yes, Ubuntu is just that good!

But how many of you are willing to go 100% linux, and uninstall/wipe out windows?
I did it years ago and had a computer that only ran Slackware. I went back to dual booting XP for a year or so just for games, but removed it altogether after realising I had ran out of uses for it, and could do everything I needed in Linux. So, I now dual boot two different linux distros.

But how many of you are willing to go 100% linux, and uninstall/wipe out windows?hmmm... not quite there yet. I still need Windows to scan stuff, print properly, and to get my occasional fix of google earth.
Oh, and sometimes for video stuff. Ok, I think ubuntu can do it eventually, but sometimes I just want to get the job done and not have to spend a couple of hours trawling these forums to figure out how.
Give Nero (for windows) a video file and it will make a DVD. Takes four hours to transcode it but so what? there's no used intervention required.
Do it with ubuntu? Maybe, but I didn't have the time... :(

There's another thread about this, by the way.
But, anyway, I still have my Windows partition intact, although I haven't booted it for a couple months because this is a notebook and when I sell it someday the owner will probably want Windows. (Yes, I could back up the partition, but there's no point as I don't need the space.)

When I installed warty I took windows off my computer completely and have only used linux since. That was 13 months ago :) I had no real prior experience with linux but decided to commit. I'll probably never use windows on my computers again.
