Hey all,
I have spent the whole day looking for a fix for this(nothing better to do at work lol) and i cant figure it out. heres the specs
Wine: 9.59
ubuntu Hardy
pretty powerfull laptop with nvidia drivers installed and working.
I have downloaded wine(latest version through winehq tutorial) and the latest steaminstaller.msi I have followed this how to:
http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO+Steam

Steam starts perfectly, and updates. The problem is whenever i go to download a game. Steam crashes instantly. I have tried it with the nice parameter as well as opengl, and noothing.

Any help is greatly Appreciated.

Wine 1.0 'final' is out. Your version is outdated by quite some time. Perhaps try installing the new version via the winehq ubuntu repositories and see if that helps. You may also wish to try removing ~/.wine (remove every wine setting/program installed) after you do this and start from scratch.
