Hello, everyone I've decided to install Ubuntu on my NEC notebook its a couple of years old now, but I was wondering whether or not the wireless AR5005G was supported or not?

I read a little on the forum but could only seem to find info on the AR5007 wireless, maybe I didn't look hard enough! But any help would be appreciated!

Thanks :-D

Arethos cards use madwifi, so you may want to look there to see:

I have an Atheros 5005g and it works just fine. It was a little tricky to get going at first. I had to connect by wire, remove the security on my router. I then connected by wireless and turned the security back on. I was able to re-connect and it been working flawless ever since.

I'm using an Acer Aspire 9300 with and AMD64 processor. I have Ubuntu 8.04 (64 bit).

Thanks for your reply, did the wireless work outta the box? Or did you have to use MadWifi to install the necessary drivers? Should be the same on the 32 bit version of Ubuntu right?

After you enable two drivers in restricted drivers manager, yes, it should basically just work.

Soryy for taking so long to reply!

It worked more or less out of the box. I posted a thread outlining what I had to do to get it going, it really wasn't very hard:
