Why would it be any different than in Windows for example? As long as your browser supports https, or any other protocols used in your transaction, it should be the same.

I suppose in general its safer than in Windows..
but this doesn't mean that you have to be loose on security...

If you have an up to date system with all security patches installed , you use Firefox plug ins like NoScript or so.. and you don't easily reveal your own password you are pretty secure....

Firefox3 also informs you at the address bar if your connection is secure and encrypted or not , which is useful.

And try to keep your system free of unknown and suspicious software...
