For some reason it seems that randomly the desktop wallpaper and icons do not show up when I start ubuntu 8.04.
I can not right click on the desktop either.
I can click on place->desktop and it shows all my files on the desktop in nautilus.

I´ve only seen one or two other person report this but no real solution was made available. Other than logging out and back in.

The background is orangish (default colours of ubuntu?).
When I turn on compiz the background turns black.

ctrl+alt+backspace and logging back in fixed the problem.
Although I have no idea if will work next time I start computer.

EDIT:
It has been working fine now. Must be an update that messes it up and needs to be logged in and out to reset it to work properly.

I just had this problem occur again.
This time it occurred after a power outage when the computer was on. Although the computer was running windows xp at the time.

It seems ctrl+alt+backspace is a quick fix to this problem.
