I'm sure some of you remember my last post about this marvelous project.
ReactOS, is an almost complete clone of an MS Windows XP Operative system and has the ability to run Windows software and windows drivers.

Last time I checked up on ReactOS it was still in Beta stages and could not run much, Network was still in developement and most drivers didnt work.
Now, things have changed, Flash works, so do DirectX games, MS Office, OpenOffice, AbiWord, Unreal Tournament, mIRC, WinRAR. And Ofcourse, network has been implemented.

One things for sure, I'm gone try this puppy out.
So take the chance and Ditch Windows for good, Lets bring Open Source to the People!!! :D

I'm not so sure it's mature enough to replace Windows, yet. I tried the LiveCD of it recently, and it booted up to the desktop but appeared to be frozen. It would not respond to input from the mouse or keyboard. And judging by stuff I've read about it, USB support is still pretty limited.

I haven't tried it on any other machines yet.

Sounds like an awesome project. But since it emulates Windows wouldn't that mean that it also has all the same problems asscioated with Windows?

I supose it might still have some problems, but its getting better.

Hopefully, no. But it shouldnt, it doesnt use any Windows source and I'm pretty sure they dont intentionaly implement bugs in their OS... Viruses might still be a problem however.
Doesnt mean it cant have other problems, like PatrickMay16 pointed out.

Acctually... I belive the apps will run somewhat like Windows apps run in Linux. Depends on how stable the OS is though, and ofcourse since ReactOS has a core very similar to windows, more apps will run and run better in ReactOS, then in Wine in Linux

Interesting as it seems to be built from scratch. Even though I would not really use it, I hope it will somehow benefit the WINE project and push some more opensource into the windows world.

I wouldnt really consiter version 0.2.7 maturity. You have to wait until it reaches 1.0.

I tried out the live cd and it's not going to win over any Windows users. It didn't come with anything except the OS and a file browser. Although I figured as much when I downloaded the file and it only unzipped to 35MB.

I really want this project to succeed. Mabye ReactOS will reach Linux's popularity someday.

All I can say is "eeeew."

It's like opening a high end hamburger stand where the burgers taste like McDonald's.

Just about the same as a fresh install of Windows, then.

It and WINE work together in a very admirable way.

I think it has alot of potential, and the fact it is a very small download is awesome, it didnt work on my computer though. It displayed all messed up. I ran it as a virtual machine and it was cool...

ReactOS is one project I've been watching for sometime now.

I would hesitate to call it 'mature' though, there are still a lot of bugs that need to be ironed out, and driver support is somewhat of a joke.

I still think it is an excellent project, and the partnership with WINE is a step forward for F/OSS in general. I expect to see big things for React in the future, it already has the potential to go beyond anything Windows has ever been capable of...
