This is so annoying...

First of all I still experience some sound glitches with ALSA and wine. I sometimes get a delay of sound by a second or two, restart of game fixes this but it comes back at random times. Usually when changing resolution.

Second of all wine 1.0 has not fixed the CS 1.6 hard freeze, what happens is that at some random point in the game the game freezes. You might still here some sound, it sounds like a repeating gunshot or anything else that was heard at the time. The game completely freezes and so do the OS. I cannot ALT+TAB, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE or switch tty. Completely unresponsive and frozen with the last frame form the game. This could be some driver problem but could also be wine I cannot tell, I run other games 3D games like Quake2 in wine and they run fine.

My specs are the following:

P4 1.6Ghz
MSI motherboard with on board sound (Realtek AC97 under WinXP)(Decent support on Linux).
768 DDR RAM
ATI 9700 Pro 128Mb

This is a known issue I have not seen it solve, can someone pls shine some light on it?

I had this problem and abondoned ubuntu because of it. I have tried it windowed and at different resolutions but all the same I think the problem lies with the ATI drivers and I was hoping it may be fixed by now but does not look like it :(

I suspect that is the drivers fault.

(I have my own rant with WINE. CS 1.6 doesn't play sound with x64, for some odd reason nor CSS and before it worked.)

I am sorry that I cant seem to help you guys. The only difference seems to be that I am using KUBUNTU and Arch (with KDEmod). I play CSS daily on both systems.

My grandson which is only 11 years old plays CSS for hours on end, with Kubuntu 8.04.

Hard freezes are due to driver bugs, not Wine. Wine runs as a user-level application and shouldn't be able to completely hose a system that way.
