I found searching for them on google easier, I found the home page here (http://www.xmms.org/skins.php). Download a .tar.gz and extract to /home/"username"/.xmms/skins/ I kept it in a folder (note: .xmms was hidden). So you get /home/"username"/.xmms/skins/"Skin Name"/. If you go to options->Skin browser in XMMS you should see your skin there.

that didn't really give me any new skins either - what i do is download winamp 2 skins - theres a plethora of em out there all over the www. Just rename the extention to .zip, and extract the contents into ur xmms skin folder (the hidden .xmms folder in your user directory). yup as far as i know theyre completely compatible

yeah, I'll second that. I just went directly to winamp.com, searched for "Classic Skins" for "winamp 2" and moved them to ~/.xmms/Skins/
I also changed the file extensions to .zip but I don't know if that's necessary

There's a Winamp5 skin that you just download into the skins folder. Skin is at http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=14870

So what's the point of downloading xmms-skins from apt?

Thanks for the tips guys. I can confirm that you do not need to rename the downloaded winamp skins. The ones I tried worked right of the bat.
I do have one question though, does anyone know how to make the menu text smoother? It's pretty crappy looking. Thanks!

Will xmms support modern skins anytime soon?

The Skins are installed to /usr/share/xmms/Skins - in order to use them, you just have to add the folder to xmms's Skin Browser.
That's all - really :)
