Hi,

I have been running Ubuntu Gnome for around 3 months as my only os.

Have missed windows on a few occassions but have been surviving through those moment by using virtual box and wine.

Can any one tell me if it is worth trying kde, are there an benefits?

Also is it easy way to install it?

Thanks

There is no answer to the question of which of them is "best". When wolves have swallowed the sun and the moon, when the stars have been snuffed and the earth trembles at the oncoming storm of Ragnarök, Gnomelings and KDElings will still fight over which is better.

To install it, just grab the kubuntu-desktop package in Synaptic or through terminal commands.
$ sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
It will install KDE as well as the standard Kubuntu applications; Amarok, K3b, Kaffeine, etc.

If you *only* want KDE (and as such, miss out on the whole "desktop environment"), just grab kdebase-bin instead.
$ sudo aptitude install kdebase-bin

...or just burn a live CD of Kubuntu and reboot into it. :>

Try SLAX (http://www.slax.org) to get a taste of KDE.

Or...

Install the Kubuntu KDE4 remix and add the Neon PPA, and use KDE4.1 nightly :-D

Isn't that for amarok 2 and not for kde4 nightly?

Damn it's sexy, it response better then KDE4.1 from kubuntu site. If this is going to be the base look of KDE 4.1 then I'm liking it, but hope they change the background to something better thats the only minor.

The base look of KDE is really just going to be up to the distribution. Granted, there aren't very many themes out right now, but that's going to change. What you're seeing are probably just the defaults from trunk, and not a Kubuntu-modified look.

I know you are right, but one thing i always was a bit dissapointed in was the base look of KDE. While the mockups show a good looking KDE. Pinheiro is a very talented artist but i don't understand the choose for those boring wave background of kde 4.0, i hope they choose one of the backgrounds he made on his blog ( http://pinheiro-kde.blogspot.com/ ) The nightly has a nice looking KDM and i hope they put in that same background with our without a different color.

And i dunno if they kubuntu branding will be better because i didn't see great kubuntu brandings in the past ( but that is just personal taste ), and branding is more then a look its also the applications they put in and that i like because they keep it simple where others put in to much of the same ( i liked a lot in the past but not any more )
