PowerMac G3 OSX install trouble

Quick question for any mac-savvy folks out there. Mind you, I'm not a newb to Macs, I just need a little help.

We tried to put a 250-gig WD hard drive into our G3, only to realise that it can only support drives up to around 120 gigs. We put a 120-gg drive in, and the OSX disk wouldn't see the drive to install to. It won't even see the original 7GB drive that came out of the computer in the first place.

Up until we put the 250GB drive in, the computer worked flawlessly. We just can't figure out why it would do something like this all of a sudden. The IDE cables are all good and the jumpers for the drives are all in the right position.

Are you sure about those jumpers?

Macs of that era do NOT use Cable Select, so if you put the jumpers there, it will do no good. One must be set to Master, the other to Slave (assuming two are used).

We've done everything we can think of, including putting the jumpers in different configurations includingcable select and master/slave. Unfortunately, it still won't work.

You may be in the incredibly unlikely situation where your IDE cable has failed. An internal contact may have been pushed out of postition?

It is very easy to swap it out to test.
