I plan on putting a new omputer i picked up onto my tv as a media center. My primary use is not going to be tv but anime and such. I plan to watch video files stored on other computers on my tv, where i have a nice screen and good sound.

so the question is on setting up mythtv, where all i see is options for tv shows andd tv tuners and recorders. I dont have a tuner to record tv (maybe in the future, but not now) but i would like to be able to access all my pictures, music, and videos over the network. Setup suggestions?

Yes. Mythbuntu will have no trouble with any of those things. Setups are actually quite simple and all within the Mythtv Wiki.
