Hi! My soundcard X-Fi XtremeMusic wont work on ubuntu. Ive tried various of things like, install oss and ive done that successfully but still dont get any sound out.
The X-Fi driver from Creative wont start either, does anybody know how to start the installation of the driver?

I would appreciate some help 'cause its pretty annoying to use a computer without any sound.
I have also read some other threads regarding this kind of issue but I didnt got any helpful information out of that.

Yours sincerely Jim.

I have the exact same problem actually. I tried to install the OSS but to no avail. Followed every step and it didn't work whatsoever.

I have no idea how to install the one from Creative. I'm completely Linux illiterate and really don't care to go back to Windows XP, but will if I can't get sound working.

I somehow managed to get my ATI card working with Hardy Heron 8.04 (AMD64 version) and I'm still amazed. Now all I need is sound!

I have a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic and I got it to work with this: http://ge.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=780961

It requires a lot of editing but it should work in the end. You'll have to edit some other program's configuration files as well to get it to work.

How do I switch my sound device to the X Fi after I've done this?
