I can't see a way to easily search "within the current forum" only. I think it's typically available on other vBulletin sites, but I might be going crazy!
It's curious to note that the Ubuntu (all about freedom) forum runs on non-free software... :(

There is a "Search this forum" button on each forum page that I can see, it's in line with the Forum title.

It's just the best solution for the forums.
I run proprietary software, does that mean I'm against Ubuntu? No not at all, I run what suits my needs :)

Spot on! It's only on the forum not the thread, but yes, it's right there. Thanks. :)

Yea - you can "search this thread" when you're in a thread but that's all. Kind of logical I guess.

There are pretty good alternatives, it doesn't seem in line with the philosophy (http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/philosophy) to me. Does it to you?

Most often when I'm reading a thread I want to search within the forum rather than the individual thread. I can use ctrl-f normally, unless it's one of the few threads that's very long. Would be great to have both options. Maybe they're all there somewhere and I just haven't spotted them. :)

You'd have to use the advanced search then I suppose - I tend to open threads in tabs and leave the forum open as well so I get all the options.

But vBulletin isn't included in Ubuntu, so that doesn't count :) As a support forum with 600,000 members, would you rather create your own forum software, or have commercially supported software that's been tried and tested.
As for the free/open part - the servers run Ubuntu server, though I'm not sure what version they run :)

A slow one it seems at times, although it appears to have gotten better lately :D

Why do we run on Vbulletin (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=176622) ? Just because (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=724506) :þ
I'm closing this thread. Your help question has been answered. No need to go back discuss again what has already been discussed ad nauseam.
