I have a 2 year old Sony Vaio TX series . Can I expect to get the latest version of Ubuntu to work satisfactorily?
When I tried it a year or so ago, I have some problems with the wireless adaptor which either wouldn't install or would lose operation.
I just fancy trying a different os than Windows and I can live with things if something not too important doesn't work but the main stuff must work if I am to stick with it.
Hope someone out there has some experience with this particular machine.

I am on the TZ series and had issues with 7.04 but on 8.04 no issues

What wireless adapter does it use ? chipset (Broadcom, Intel) ? Wireless support has improved with 8.04 Hardy Heron. If you can you should connect the laptop via ethernet cable to the web when you install (via CD) as this will give fewer problems.
