Ive been glued to Photoshop for a number of years now and GIMP seems just, just difficult to me right now, but Id like to get into it.

Are there any good books about GIMP I can buy or good online tutorial sites? I can do basic stuff like resizing, etc, but can GIMP do things like gradiants, clone stamp, background eraser, lasso, drop shadow, stroke, etc, etc??

Many thanks!

Google for information about the free MeetTheGimp podcast series (at least 47 episodes last count!). I think there was a problem with web hosting so you may have to search around.

Also, check out a book called "Beginning GIMP" (not free though).

Good luck.

There is also grokking-the-gimp in the repository. It's an HTML book about the basics of the gimp.

Here's it's description from synaptic:

GIMP tutorial book by Carey Bunks (HTML)
This is the HTML version of "Grokking the GIMP", an excellent
introduction to the GIMP and to image processing in general. It
covers the basic GIMP tools, layers, selections, masks, color spaces,
color manipulations, photo touch-up and enhancement, compositing,
shadows, punch-outs, bevels, and how to use the GIMP to create online
content (animated GIFs, clickable image maps etc).

"Grokking the GIMP" is very readable and includes lots of example
graphics.

It is recommended that you use a browser with proper support for PNGs
to read this book; newer versions of Mozilla (or Galeon) are known to
work.
