Hi All,

I've just joined the forum and look forward to conversing with you all in the future. I need some help and have an issue installing gnome on 7.4 on a a SPARC Ultra 60. The Ubuntu install itself seems fine, as Apache and MySQL work OK and I get to a command prompt but there is no GUI, so I tried to install gnome. I ran:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

and the install starts copies lots of stuff from the boot CD and prompts "press enter" lots of times (very annoying!) to the point where it says its 99% working and seems to be in a loop doing nothing, that is, with me sitting there pressing enter and the CD light momentarily flashing each time I do. This didn't seem right to me so I abandoned it. I may try the 7.10 distro. Will it amke any difference?

I've been through the install procedure a couple of times on the same Ultra 60 host but only the first time through was I prompted to create an LVM. I opted not to but was never prompted again. Can I get back to a point where I'll be prompted for the creation of and LVM again? What I think I want is a clean install on a formatted disk. How do I get there?

Thanks in advance

Cheers
Pat
