Problem with my sound in LG S1

Hi. I have an LG S1 Express Dual and am having the "headphones give sound but not the built in speakers" problem.

I am having this same problem under Ubuntu 8.10 and cannot find a solution anywhere on the net... searched high and low. I am at the point where a Google search is returning nothing but my own unanswered posts <sigh>...

Maybe 9.x will solve the problem...
