I have just installed ubuntu server (8.04) and webmin. When the webmin install was complete, it said to access webmin by entering http://melchior.local:10000, but I was only able to get access by typing in the actual IP of the machine.

How can I (1) assign a static ip to my server (it is on a dhcp network), and (2) access it by the hostname?

My goal is to have a few virtual hosts running on the server each accessible with a host name. I have the bind dns module installed on webmin, but I am at a loss as how to get any hostname resolution for the main server or any virtual hosts.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, and apologies if I missed a post that answers these questions.

Summary: need static IP and hostname resolution on an intranet lamp server.
