View Full Version : [ubuntu] Migrating printing server from Win to Ubuntu [headache]

Hello, all.

I am trying to migrate a printing server (one that used-to-be WinXP) to an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS AMD64 Desktop box. Everything seems to be working nicely, but I have not succeeded in making it work.

I need to share the main printer of this server as a SMB printer (in the form \\Server\DefaultPrinter, just as it was held by the WinXP box, visible and accessible to all clients). This machine has many people trying to print in it, and we have realized that it is not a good idea to change the printer settings for each Win client.

I have read many tutorials, documents, manuals., but I have not been able to find the magic combination of Samba/Cups/Whoknowswhat options to make it work.

In few words: what I want to do is to migrate from Win to Ubuntu in a way that is totally transparent to our Win clients (which means to keep untouched the printing settings in any of those).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

-JM.
