I run both the xfce and fluxbox environments. I like the speed of fluxbox but use the Xubuntu default xfce environment occasionally.
Today, after some updates while logged into xfce, I switched over to fluxbox and the process "xfce4-panel" started without warning (according to my conky monitor) and took up 95%+ of my resources. I logged out and back in a couple more times to see if this was consistent. I was able to shut it off by running the xfce4-taskmanager but I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this.
Upon completely rebooting, the issue resolved itself.
