I really dont think tere should be since that would be like removing gnome and xfce and only providing KDE. I think that there should be someway to convert packages for use with other package managers.

There is - Alien (http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/alien). A proper manually constructed package is better though.

On a personal level I am happy using .deb or .rpm
I feel that new users ot Linux are put off by the array of package types
New users want one package type and they just want it to work.

You can get autopackage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autopackage) it's just not adopted by many dev's

alien is good though, but it needs a graphical interface for newcomers.
