Hello, i have downloaded Ubuntu onto both a dvd disk and a cd, ihave tried loading these on my new build computer and neither work, the dvd is coming up with a disk error and the cd starts to load but then a little flashing white bar starts in the top right of my screen and thats how far it gets, previously the load was getting as far and the ubuntu logo with a orange loading bar and then stops.

I have tried switching and cleaning the ram cards and i have connected both a 300gb external hard drive and the internal hard drive, i have 512mb of ram, however i dont no what size the internal hard drive is,

Please help

The iso probably got corrupted on the download, re-download it and burn it with this: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Or another iso burning program. You should probably also check the MD5 sum after the download, though it isn't required.

I agree about the iso being corrupted.

Here is Ubuntu documentation that explains what checking the MD5 sum is:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

also, here are the hashes for the different isos:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes

furthermore, imgburn is a great burning program. i haven't had a problem with it yet.
