ubuntu studio getting ardour to work

Can I *please* have some help in getting ardour to work under ubuntu studio? I am using an intel hda? soundcard (onboard) and cannot seem to get reasonable sound (recording).
It is either crackly (hard to describe) or slows down and speeds up.

Ardour uses jack for sound. Try changing the driver and input output settings in jack control.

Try doing a search or browsing in the multimedia production forum. There are quite a few threads there about setting up you sound with Ardour and jack.
