when the screen is locked (fn+F6),do the processes still run?

I don't know anything about locking with fn+f6 (I have no function key?), but when I lock my session to start a new one, amarok still plays my music.

is it similar to

System -->Quit --> Lock screen

if yes than the program continues to run ???
