I know this is basic, but hey so am I

Is there a simple "how-to" that explains how to properly use features like "insert image", "wrap quote tags .........", "wrap code tags ........", etc?

Feel free to laugh at me:)

Try the Guide to Forum Features? If it doesn't have what you want, make a request here, and I am sure someone (probably me, if done soon) will write one up.

The link to this guide is in my sig, and it is also a sticky in this forum.

OK, I'm trying, sadly I'm an old fart and I guess I just don't get it.

Look what I did here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5182026#post5182026

I meant to post the actual screenshot but instead left a link. Does that create a vulnerability to my computer?

I also don't get how folks leave links or commands "wrapped".

Duh! Sorry I'm so slow, but the beauty of it is that someone as slow as me could install Ubuntu and do all my daily tasks + I've turned quite a few other seniors onto Ubuntu that were still using WIN 98 and ME because they couldn't afford an upgrade to XP!

I just love Ubuntu though. The simplicity of Abiword is great! I just need to learn how to use these forum tools

Someone else should do this, because I use the text only editor on the forum (no buttons or anything). Here is how I do:

To get a quote, in which the words are in a box but the words wrap use the Quotes Material Here tags.

So:

I am quoting myself.

To quote a post, you click on the "quote" button or the little button next to it (for multiquote) and make a post.

For code, use the put code here tags.

For images I can't give a great answer. You can attach an image, I believe the icon is a paperclip (click on it).

For hotlinked images, you have to have the image on a server somewhere. I use http://imageshack.us/

That site will give you several options (even without an account). It gives you the code to paste in, it creates a thumbnail and it allows you to resize the image. If you have an account, you get more function.

Here is an example of me using it:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2219/cimg0030in9.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg0030in9.jpg)

The code is:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2219/cimg0030in9.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg0030in9.jpg)

It has to be an internet address, not a path on your computer.

Does that create a vulnerability to my computer?

You probably want to use the attachment feature if you don't have a way to host your images on the net.

That path is not a vulnerability to your computer.

I'll fiddle some more in the next few days.

If you see some really ridiculous looking posts here it'll be because I'm using this thread to learn.

Please feel free to delete anything and everything.

Thanks for bearing with me, but as i said ............. isn't it cool that someone like me can not only learn to install Ubuntu, but to dual boot, etc?

Ubuntu is not only ready for prime time, it IS PRIME!

And I've even been able to help a few people myself!

You might want to check out Tutorials on Forum Basics (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=726150)

The sticky (which links to each post on that thread that has a tutorial) has the new one you wrote in it now.

Thanks a lot for putting up with my nOObishness!

I'd just add that this forum is GREAT!
