Why, oh why, would the adept package manager upgrade my Firefox 3 browser to RC1 today, instead of to RC2? That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Asa Dotzler from Mozilla asked a very similar question on a blog announcing that Firefox 3 RC1 was in hardy-updates (http://www.asoftsite.org/s9y/archives/136-Firefox-3-RC1-released-to-hardy-updates.html) and got an answer that answer your question.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=824754 provides another possible answer to the original question.

Hopefully the glitches are fixed in the updates I saw this am. For what it's worth, Mozilla says Firefox 3 for Linux is done (http://nancib.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/firefox-3-is-ready-to-go-except-on-osx/) and doesn't need another RC, unlike the MacOSX builds. Unfortunately Ubuntu is now pushing out updates that call themselves Firefox 3. Not RCx, simply Firefox 3. Which makes me feel like Ubuntu is pulling a page from the BetaNews playbook and jumping the gun on Mozilla's release. Grrr.
