I am trying to install Wine on my computer running ubuntu 6.06 LTS. I have the Wine downloaded but everytime I click the package, the package installer pops up for like two seconds and then goes away. I don't see anything that would point to wine being already installed. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix the problem? TIA.

Not sure about 6.06, but Wine creates a directory tree from a hidden directory in your home directory called .wine

There is a specific Wine forum, better than Absolute Beginners for this sort of question

How is it you're trying to install? The recommend way would be through the Wine repository (http://winehq.org/site/download-deb), but I don't know if that would cause any problems on 6.06 (Dapper?).

If it's a .bin file, you problably need to run it through the terminal.
