I'm having issues with fonts: Scribus won't export ANY of my fonts to PDF, I don't like all the fonts that came packaged with Ubuntu, I'd like to download more. But I don't know where to find them on my file system. How does it work, are all fonts put in one directory then used by GIMP, Open Office, Scribus, etc.? Where is this directory? How can I add more fonts to this directory and how can I look through the fonts that I've got so I can see if I like them or not and choose new ones, etc?

You can put fonts in ~/.fonts (hidden folder in your home folder).
