Upgrade to server edition

Hi. I'm planning to buy a new PC with Ubuntu pre-installed but I want to upgrade it to the server edition so I can run Apache/PHP etc in a test environment. Is it easy/possible/advised to upgrade from 8.04 desktop edition to 8.04 server edition? Or would I be better just installing XAMPP on my desktop edition?

If you have Ubuntu desktop version you will easy install server.In synaptic edit tab>mark packages by task>LAMP.
