Sorry, I'm trying to join the #Ubuntu IRC but I can't even figure out how to sign up and configure my Pidgin.

In the Pidgin IRC console, type:

/join #ubuntu-ircYou can use ChatZilla or IRSSI as well for IRC..

do you have built up a connection to the ubuntu irc server?

much easier to use one of the IRC clients to connect rather than pidgeon.
for gnome i reccomend Xchat and if your a KDE guy Konversation is the way to go.
both connect to default servers on startup and have extensive help files along with forums for additional help getting started.

I don't think so. (But I am not sure what you mean.)

i reccomend you to get Xchat irc client. its user friendly.. click on applications->add/remove-> in searchbox type Xchat(dont press enter)->put a cec near xchat and click on apply. let it download all the stuff, and then to open it u go to applications->internet->Xchat IRC
then when u open it you will get to choose your name, and a server u want to connect to. click on "+ Add" give aname to server "Ubuntu Forums" then click on edit. in poped out window click edit and type in
irc.ubuntu.com/8001Then in channels to join add
#ubuntuforums click close, now in server list click on Ubuntu Forums and click on JOIN.
Welcome to ubuntu forums IRC channel! :D

now join a channel... either type:

/join #ubuntu

or open a channel join dialog box somewhere... I don't use xchat...

You can also join more than one channel, so once you joint #ubuntu join #ubuntuforums with:

/join #ubuntuforums

and instead of /join I think you chould also just write /j

Are you trying to connect to an irc server at ubuntu.com or the FreeNode IRC server?

I connect to the FreeNode server (it's in the network list) and join #ubuntu from there

Try opening port 113 on your router, (if you have one). It's to do with the IRC server asking for identification from xchat and xchat not being able to get a response back.
