I'm having a strange problem with the Appearance Preferences dialog. It does not allow me to select another background image. If it does switch to another image it does so after a long delay. I have tried removing all images in the dialog and re-adding different images. However, this does not solve the problem. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. The problem remains whether I'm using Compiz or not. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

I've also experienced the same problem but was able to left click on one of the images then used my keyboard arrows to select the image to display as background. I've seen other posts that indicate we are not alone. Since I don't change my desktop background much it really doesn't effect me. However, if I couldn't use the keyboard arrows I might be a little more concerned.
Hope this helps.....

Thanks for your help. It's good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. In my case I am unable to select other backgrounds with either the right or left mouse buttons. The arrow keys are also unresponsive. The current image just stays selected. I also don't change my background that often, so it's not the biggest problem, but it's still quite annoying. The only solution I've found is to add an image again and it will automatically be selected.
