Hello,

I've installed JRE via the repositories. I'd like to know how to get it working as a plugin in firefox/kde.

Could somebody please explain how to do this?

You must have missed that sticky thread at the top that says
"Java on 64-bit Systems (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=774956)".
