I've had Ubuntu on this old dell laptop I have and was getting really angry at how slow it was. I mean breezy was basically unusable. Always swapping to that little slow old hard drive. I thought the 128mb that was in there was probably enough. It was a pain.
So I bought a 512 stick and threw it in. Im amazed, its like how ubuntu used to be on my old desktop. I can use beagle and azeurus at the same time?! who knew haha.

With Ram as cheap a it is I would always recommend upgrading Ram if you have 256 or less. Of course some linux users are using outdated computers and either can not find the ram for their computers or it may be expensive for a old system. Ram just makes all the difference in the world when you do not have enough.

I got more ram yesterday, and fluxbox FLIES with it... I haven't tried gnome again, though...

RAM matters in Gnome more than CPU. A Gnome box with 512 RAM and a 800mhz processor will run better than a Windows box with 256 mb RAM and a 2ghx processor.
