wu-ftp site exec in 6.06?

We're running 6.06 on most of our servers, and we need the site exec command for some internal processes. I installed wu-ftpd on one of our 8.04 boxes for testing and it worked great, but when I installed it on our 6.06 the site and help commands are disabled. Copying the executable from the 8.04 box didn't work(Exec Format error). I pulled the source from debian's site but can't get it to compile. Does anyone know a solution? or another ftp server package that supports the site exec command?
